VANITY FAIR
A carousel of scandal, wit, and war.
Becky Sharp. Waterloo. Social climbing, scandal, and satire — all in one wild ride. Moving Parts’ brand new adaptation of Thackeray’s novel, featuring original music, movement, and immersive outdoor staging.
Welcome to the whirligig of VANITY FAIR and take your place on the carousel, among the social climbers, buffoons and preening dandies. In a world of gossip and speculation, where scandal and celebrity can turn on a sixpence, we follow the twisting fortunes of Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley.
This brand new adaptation of Thackeray’s rarely performed tale of greed, ambition, love and betrayal transports audiences from Regency salons and ballrooms to the battlefield of Waterloo!

💃 Movement by Nevana Stojkov
🎬 Adapted by Joanna Nevin, Martin South & Simona Hughes. Directed by Simona Hughes.

What to know about your visit
Whether it’s your first outdoor theatre experience or your tenth, a little preparation goes a long way. From seating and weather to food, timings and accessibility, here’s everything you need to know to enjoy the performance comfortably and confidently.
Weather: Rain doesn’t stop us!
- Come prepared by packing a waterproof
- No umbrellas during performances please as they obstruct views
- We’ll ONLY cancel performances if the weather becomes dangerous
- Prepare for a hot day by bringing sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses
- We also recommend some insect repellent
- Bring a coat too in case it gets chilly when the sun sets
Comfort
- A few of our venues have a limited amount of seating available – but to be on the safe side, we recommend you:
- Bring a cushion, camping chair, or a blanket
- The advantage of sitting on blankets is that you are more likely to be given a space near the front
- If in doubt, do check with the venue directly about seating
Wheelchair access
- Some of our venues are wheelchair accessible. Please check directly with them before booking.
Food and Drink
- For most of our venues, you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy during the performance
- However, some venues sell snacks and drinks, so picnics might not be welcome- every place is different so do check first
- We recommend you always bring a bottle of water at the very least.
Timings
- We recommend you arrive 20 – 30 minutes before the performance starts to find your spot, settle and enjoy a refreshment
- Late comers will be admitted but are unlikely to get a good view!
- Performance length is 2 hours plus a 20-minute interval
- Some venues prefer a 30-minute interval, so do check if you have a train to catch!
Photography
- We love seeing your photos online after each performance!
- Please remember to tag us on:
- When taking photos, please be respectful of those around you. Not everybody will want to be caught on camera, so do please focus on yourselves and the performers, also remember to keep the flash turned off.
Pet friendly
- Some venues allow well behaved dogs, but do check directly with them first
- Guide / Assistance dogs are always welcome
What they say about us
Wow, wow and wow – loved your show in Oxford tonight. We gave up our usual Sunday roast to be there and glad we did. Very imaginative and creative in every respect and so much energy from your performers. I never expected you to hold the attention of 3 teenagers for 3 hours. But you succeeded. And … they came away singing and smiling!
